Another SBC Summit is behind us, bringing operators, technology providers, marketing teams, and industry leaders together in Lisbon.
For the UBIDEX team, three days at SBC were a chance to connect with the industry and take a closer look at the ideas and technologies shaping iGaming growth. One direction stood out in particular: the way operators approach long-term user value is becoming more data-driven, contextual, and connected.
Here are three trends that caught our attention at SBC Summit 2026.
SBC Summit Lisbon 2026
First-party data is becoming more valuable
iGaming operators already have one of their most valuable resources at hand: a detailed understanding of how users interact with their brand.
Registrations, deposits, frequency of activity, engagement patterns, and periods of inactivity all create signals about where a user is in their lifecycle.
The opportunity is not simply to collect more data, but to use it more effectively. First-party data can help operators identify meaningful audience segments, recognize changes in behavior earlier, and make more informed decisions about when and how to engage different users.
As the industry puts more focus on long-term user value, this understanding becomes increasingly important. The same experience will not be equally relevant to a newly registered user, a frequent depositor, and someone whose activity has started to decline.
Advertising is part of that experience too. When first-party behavioral data informs retargeting, operators can move away from generic campaigns and make advertising more relevant to the user’s actual relationship with the brand.

Personalization is becoming more contextual
Personalization in iGaming is moving beyond simply placing users into predefined segments.
The more operators understand about user behavior, preferences, and lifecycle stage, the more precisely they can decide what kind of interaction makes sense at a particular moment.
For an active user, the goal may be to maintain engagement. For someone showing signs of declining activity, it may be to prevent disengagement. For an inactive user, the priority changes again.
This makes context increasingly important. Effective personalization is not about increasing the number of messages a user receives. It is about making each interaction more relevant to their current relationship with the brand.
That principle should extend to advertising as well. Retargeting can become part of the personalized user experience, with audiences, messaging, and campaign logic shaped by the same behavioral signals operators already use elsewhere.

Retention is becoming more connected
Retention is no longer the responsibility of a single channel or function.
CRM, product experience, analytics, automation, communication, and advertising all influence whether users remain engaged with a brand over time. The challenge is making these elements work together rather than treating them as separate activities. That requires a more connected view of the user lifecycle: understanding what has already happened, recognizing changes in behavior, choosing the right next interaction, and measuring its impact.
For advertising, this means moving away from isolated campaigns and connecting retargeting more closely with the broader retention strategy. When first-party data, segmentation, retargeting, and measurement work together, advertising becomes another coordinated touchpoint in the user journey rather than a separate activity competing for attention.

Final thoughts
SBC Summit 2026 reflected a broader shift happening across iGaming: understanding the user is becoming just as important as reaching them.
First-party data provides the context. Personalization makes interactions more relevant. A connected retention strategy brings different touchpoints together around the user lifecycle.
For us at UBIDEX, the interesting part is how retargeting fits into this evolution.
When connected with the data and strategies operators already use, retargeting can become a natural extension of the user experience, helping brands stay relevant beyond their owned environments and throughout more of the user lifecycle.
Thank you to everyone who connected with the UBIDEX team in Lisbon. See you at the next one.
